Who Are We

The first local Mayors Prayer Breakfast was sponsored by the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce in 1967, and now organized by a volunteer committee of businessmen and women, not funded by tax dollars nor government endorsed. The Mayors of all Central Florida cities, with other Civic Leaders, have been invited to attend and be prayed for. However, its true beginning was in April, 1935, in Seattle, Washington when a group of successful business leaders met in early morning sessions to discuss the crime and corruption overwhelming their city. They realized God’s direction was necessary and established a weekly prayer group that continues to thrive today.

In 1942, following a breakfast meeting in New York City, the President of the National Association of Manufacturers suggested that members of Congress meet in a similar fashion to set a pace for our national life as well as a God-directed, God-controlled nation. Prayer and discussion groups were soon organized by U.S. Senators and Congressmen, and today the tradition continues. Weekly prayer groups still meet on Capitol Hill, including groups of Congressional aides, several groups at the Pentagon, and still others scattered throughout Washington. They shun publicity, but meet together to hear the voice of God.

These prayer breakfasts are held in the belief that only God's guidance and inspiration can provide optimum leadership for the people, our cities, states, nation and world. Today we honor our Creator and His servants, our elected officials, and hold them in prayerful embrace. May they be mindful of the numerous prayers that are offered each day on their behalf by an army of faithful believers here in Central Florida.
